Port Blair, Oct 25: Port Blair Municipal council has always advised general public not to construct and commercial or non commercial structures over drains. Today, making mockery of its own rules the PBMC has laid the foundation stone for building a New Fruit Market, over the drain at Mohanpura.
Fuming over this issue the Andaman Truck driver Association has expressed their anguish and informed that the space utilized for building of New Fruit market is very close to the parking place for their trucks and they fear that slowly they will be evicted from the place by PBMC.
Opposing the plan the truck drivers gathered in groups and questioned PBMC Chairman Mr. I P Singh and Mr. Vishal Jolly, State President, BJP, who had reached to the spot for laying foundation stone.
Speaking to the drivers Mr. Vishal Jolly assured that no actions will be taken against the interest of the Truck drivers. In this connection, he said, a meeting is scheduled to be held at PBMC tomorrow, in which all parties will sit face to face and discuss the matter.
In this connection Mr. B.Chandrachoodan, General Secretary, CITU has also lambasted the decision taken by PBMC and said, if the fruit market is set up over the drain and close to the main road, it will increase the traffic congestion.
