Port Blair, Oct 20: In a shocking development on Friday night, two police officers, including the SDPO, Bambooflat and one Sub Inspector, were locked up inside a room of Manpur Community Hall, by a group of gamblers, when the team had gone for gambling raid.
As per reports, the SHO of Ograbraj, Inspector, Sabana Hanif, who was present outside the community hall immediately communicated this matter to senior officers and based on their directions, she took a bold move and broke open the locks of the room, with the help of police and IRBn Jawans and freed both police officers.
Later, the Police team also arrested 27 people, including one Samity Member of the area, from the spot for rioting based on complaint lodged by the SDPO Bambooflat himself.
Sources said that Gambling was going on inside the community hall on a big scale for some time and on Thursday night also a police team could not raid the spot as there was heavy retaliation and police team had inadequate force.
However on Friday night while another raid was planned, the first party, which consisted of these two officers were tricked and locked up inside a room,by the gamblers, where all other gamblers were present.
Sources said that all 27 arrested people were produced before the court today from where three were sent to Judicial Custody while all other got bail.
As no officials could be contacted for a comment, in this regard, nothing is clear about the Gambling and board money, recovered.
Cases of big and organize Gambling is coming into light more from South Andaman region now, which shows that these Gamblers have good link with some higher officers. Nearly week ago some high profile gamblers were arrested from Bambooflat region.
