
Port Blair, Oct 16: Mr. Bishnu Pada Ray, Member of Parliament, A & N Islands alongwith Mr. Yumnam Tomba Singh, “President, Preservation committee of deported Manipuri war heroes” in Andaman and Nicobar Islands and Mr. Khagen Soren, Organization Secretary, Vanvashi Kalyan Aashram Port Blair met with Lt Governor at Raj Niwas in the morning of 16.10.2017 and submitted a demand for allotment of 1 acre of land in Port Blair for construction of a Memorial Centre in memory of the ”Heroes of Anglo Manipuri war of 1891”. The first Meitei/ Manipuri who was exiled to Kalapani were Meidingu (Meitei Prince), Sana Chachi Ahum alias Ranjit (Horoscope name) alias Prince Narendrajit. Maharaja Kulachandra his brothers and 12 noblemen instead of hanging were to be sent to Kalapani for life imprisonment after having confiscated by the British Government all their wealth and property. On 23 November, 1891 from Calcutta on board the Ship S. S. Shahjahan. Late Maharaj Kullachandra Dhwaja Singh and Major Chongtha Miya Singh were allowed to return to mainland and no information about the thirteen remaining prisoners could be found.
