Port Blair, Sept 07: After media pressure the Electricity Department for the name sake published a schedule for power cut in South Andaman region and mentioned that there will be load shedding for 1 hour 15 minutes everyday but Islanders are shocked to see that the power cut schedule is hardly followed by the Department.
Worst hit are areas like Bargat Line and New Pahargaon where there are multiple power cuts of more than one hour duration daily in the evening hours.
As per schedule there should have been only one power cut for one hour and fifteen minutes in New Pahargaon and Bargat Line area but on Wednesday there were an additional power cut at Bargat line from 11. PM and at New Pahargaon from 8.00 PM to 9.15 PM.
Similarly yesterday also there were more than one hour long power cuts twice in these areas. Surprisingly, today there was load shedding at 5.30 PM.
Adding to the pain there are dozens of power cuts in the day time about which one can’t even keep a record.
Residents of these areas questions that if the Electricity Department can’t follow a power cut schedule then why such schedules are published. Are those schedules are published for fooling public and misleading top officials?
Similar Complaints are coming from Birchgunj and Sippighat areas also.
Social media is presently flooded with serious concerns expressed by people of these Islands regarding present power crisis but sadly there is no one who can listen to public problems and take some remedial steps.
The Problem is that the Electricity Department lacks dynamic officers who can keep things under total control and hence every time due to lack of proper management, people of these Islands are made to suffer.
