Port Blair, August 10: The members of Aam Aadmi Electricity Mazdoor Union had recently visited to North & Middle Andaman and they had many stopovers in the entire stretch and visited various electricity site offices, where lot of mismanagements were seen.
Considering that the Union has written a letter to the Chief Secretary, Andaman Nicobar Administration and also to the Lt Governor to intervene into the matter and solve the issues that are being faced by the workers of the area.
In a letter addressed to the CS and LG, the members of the Union mentioned that the entire belt of North & Middle was all about ‘Mandays’ (Mazdoors hired for transmission & distribution (T & D) work) who are playing the role of EE, AE, JE, Meter Reader, Lineman & Ledger Clerk and when it requires, in the absence of regular staff, who mostly don’t care to maintain the office.
They mentioned that as the Higher Officers pass all the responsibilities to these handful temporary staffs including the job of revenue collection. These site offices are in a very worst Condition.
The members added that Rangat Sub-division office is a laughing stock for the people, the make shift office is in bad state of affairs, the staff fear the roof may crash it down any time, the water seeps in during rain and there is no toilet facility for staff. Wherein the Central Government is harping on Swach Bharat Abhiyan, but these site offices lack in basic toilet facilities, the authorities must ponder over.
Adding to it the visiting members said that they were shell-shocked to found out that the entire power house in Diglipur is managed by these handful Mandays, the member fear that if any untoward incident happens then who will hold the responsibility. The members further demanded the authorities must keep a tab on these affairs.
