Campbell Bay, Jul 05: All political parties, associations, other organizations and general public of Campbell Bay have called for a Campbell Bay wide bandh and Chakka Jam tomorrow. According to the residents and representatives of political parties the bandh has been called because of the negligent behavior of the administration towards the residents of these far flung Island.
Talking to Andaman Sheekha Mr. Gagandeep Singh, Zilla Parishad Member Campbell Bay said that in recent months Campbell Bay has undergone many problems and every time when there is an outrage the administration acts in hurry and gives a temporary solution and after the withdrawal of protests all promises made are forgotten and the misery continues.
Campbell Bay is witnessing 10 hour long power cut since the last two days and this is not the first time that such power cuts were enforced people of the southernmost settlement of India. A month back the situation was the same and power cut upto 10 long hours were being implemented back then too.
The Islanders of Great Nicobar have also been demanding for several other basic things but they allege that the administration never pays heed to any of their demands and has never solved their problems permanently.
Meanwhile the Islander have submitted 11 point long list of their problems to the Assistant Commissioner of Campbell Bay with a covering letter informing him about the Campbell Bay wide Bandh called on 06th of July 2017. The Assistant Commissioner is said to have called an emergency meeting with the PRI’s which was not fruitful since no permanent solution for any of the Issue was offered by the administration.
Talking to Andaman Sheekha Mr. Sanjay Kumar Singh, Ex-Pramukh, Campbell Bay and ES Rajesh, Pradhan, Laxmi Nagar Gram Panchayat said that the bandh has been called so that the problems of the common man is solved permanently. They further added that the administration every time tries only to solve the problems temporarily now we need to bring change in the approach of the administration in solving problems of these far flung Islands.
Further after the Assistant Commissioner was informed of the Campbell Bay wide Bandh the load shredding was terminated and normal power was restored to keep the public outrage in check. However it was decided by the members of the general public that the band will not be called off until permanent solutions for all the problems are not found.
Meanwhile the Coast Guard Public School and the Carmel Convent at Campbell Bay have declared holiday to avoid any inconvenience to their students.
All Shops in Campbell Bay will remain completely closed tomorrow and the general public will not let any vehicle pass from the main junctions of Campbell Bay thereby bringing Campbell Bay to a halt. Only ambulance will be allowed to pass through these human barricades and fire tender will only be allowed in case there is any fire accident.
Members of Campbell Bay Small Traders Association while talking to Andaman Sheekha said that Campbell Bay is all set to fight back for its basic needs and we will do it peacefully throughout and only withdraw when a permanent solution for all our problems are given.
