Port Blair, April 20: The Local Born Association has claimed that the Lt Governor has not given any assurance yet on the implementation of Inner Line Permit System in the Andaman & Nicobar Islands.
Addressing a press conference at Netaji Hall this afternoon at 04:00pm, the President Local Born Association, Dr Prem Kishen said after a successful rally on 18th April by the LBA, they have succeeded again, to draw the attention of the Andaman Administration towards implementing Inner Line Permit System in the islands, as it was ordered by the Supreme Court of India.
He said that however, the present Lt Governor still has confusion regarding the order of the Supreme Court judgement of 2002 and to clear all facts within 2-3 days a delegation of four members, 2 from LBA and 2 from Mopla Association will meet the Lt Governor with documents.
“Andaman Nicobar Islands is slowly transforming into Bangladesh, LBA agrees that we woke up very late to press our demands. Islands have a carrying capacity and we have to protect it, now it is necessary for the administration to wake up and fulfil our demands,” Dr Prem said.
The LBA also claimed that the Lt Governor was also not positive on the second demand of the LBA for abolishing Tax from Residential Buildings.
“If the Lt Governor will not implement the inner line permit system in the Andaman & Nicobar Islands within three months the Local Born Association, Andaman Mopla Service Organisation (AMSO) along with other supportive organisations will go for a massive agitation with a huge gathering and even go for Andaman Bandh Protest and if even then nothing happens then a protest will be held by the same associations in the Jantar Mantar, New Delhi,” Mr Abdul Siddique, General Secretary, AMSO.
Mr Abdul Siddique further said that on 08.11.2008 Island Protection Forum sat on a dharna at Jantar Mantar, New Delhi following the same demand and during then he as well as Dr Prem Kishen were one among them.
