Port Blair, Apr 05: The A&N Administration has initiated action under aegis of Ministry of New & Renewable Energy, Govt. of India to generate a large part of its demand through alternative energy sources such as solar, hydro, wind, waves and LNG by December 2018. This is a paradigm shift from “diesel-dependency” to “solar dependency”.
As a part of this initiative, the Administration will be setting up the Solar Power Plants of 48 MWp at different locations which will be with Battery Energy Storage System to cater the cloud intermittency and solar energy time shift to meet the evening peak demand which will save the costly diesel fuel to a great extent.
The Union Home Minister, Shri Rajnath Singh who will be visiting these islands shall be laying the foundation stone of one of the above solar power plants of 17 MWp capacity (at Manglutan) and 8MWp (at Chidiyatapu). The function will be held at Manglutan on 07.04.2017 at 09.30 AM. The function would also graced by Hon’ble Lieutenant Governor, Prof Jagdish Mukhi and Hon’ble Member of Parliament, Shri Bishnu Pada Ray. These power plants are being established by NTPC.
