Diglipur, Mar 29: The fisherman of Diglipur sub division will hold a strike and Dharna from 30 March 2017. On 29 March the Srikakulam Fisherman co-operative society issued a letter to Deputy Commissioner saying that their sales have gone down drastically after the administration transferred them to new fish market at Subhashgram ward No. 5 which is far away from the main bazaar.
The fish vendors again demanded the administration to relocate them to old fish market at Diglipur bazaar. The Asst. Commissioner, Diglipur had earlier assured the fishermen that proper steps will be taken within one month for the development of the new market. As the sales are plunging now fisherman decided to start indefinite strike and Dharna in front of administrative building at Diglipur.
Earlier today the Asst. Commissioner and other authorities went to Durgapur fisherman colony and tried to convince them regarding various issues of fisherman and widening of National Highway will affect the old fish market etc. But the fishermen were absolutely determined to their demands.
Andaman Sheekha had highlighted the issue on Feb 5 that the fishermen are unsatisfied by the decision of the administration and started a private fish market at Diglipur bazaar. This market is also closed since inauguration to facilitate fisher folks.
