Port Blair, Mar 23: Shri Kuldeep Rai Sharma, PCC President has invited the attention of the Director of Shipping Services, A & N Administration to the problems being faced by the general public of Campbell Bay due to non berthing / touching of mainland bound passenger ships at Campbell bay and requested to take appropriate action to ensure that the mainland bound ships are touched Campbell bay at least once in every month to mitigate the inconvenience of the public.
In his letter Shri Kuldeep said that Campbell Bay is situated on the most southern part of India and is separated from other part of this island territory. Majority of the population of Campbell Bay and the nearby islands are originally belongs to mainland India and mainly depending on ship for their journey to mainland. Considering the hardship of the populace of Campbell Bay in availing ships for their to and fro journey to mainland from Port Blair passenger ships bound to Chennai were used to berth/touch Campbell Bay on its both ways once in every month. However, this practice has been discontinued for the last 3-4 months for reasons best known to the administration. Resultantly the residents of Campbell Bay and nearby islands are suffering much difficulty for their journey to mainland.
The School vacation is fast approaching and the general public and teachers are prepared to go to their home town with their children to spend their holidays and ship journey is the most apt option for their travel to mainland, keeping their financial aspect. But it is worrisome as now-a-days the mainland bound ships are not touching Campbell Bay, Shri Kuldeep said.
