Port Blair, Mar 21: Centre of Indian Trade Unions, Middle Andaman Zonal Committee has organized a massive procession and public meeting at Rangat Bazar on 16th March, 2017 protesting against various anti-labour policies of the central government and A & N Administration. A large number of workers working in various departments like APWD, Electricity, Forests, had participated in the procession. On culmination of the procession, a public meeting was held at Rangat Bazar in the evening. Addressing the public meeting, B. Chandrachoodan, General Secretary, CITU A & N State Committee criticized the central government for pursuing various anti-labour policies in utter disregard of the massive protest unleashed by central trade unions jointly at the national level. He said that trade unions rights are being curtailed at the behest of corporate houses. A. Boominathan, President, CITU State Committee lambasted the A & N Admiministration for not conceding the demand of the workers to extend the 1/30th of pay plus DA scheme of the Govt. of India to the daily rated mazdoors working in the APWD. VK Krishnadas, Secretary, CITU Zonal Committee and Karuppaiah, Secretary, ASNVMS, Rangat Branch and leaders of Non-Gazetted Govt. Officers Association Nadarajan, Sadan Chandra Das, Adaickalam also addressed the meeting.
