Port Blair, Mar 14: The Food Safety Officials under the overall supervision of Commissioner Food Safety conducted surprise raids at various places in South Andaman District and recovered contraband tobacco products from shopkeepers as well as general public.
On 02/03/2017, PS, Aberdeen intimated that one Shri.M.Balasubramian R/o Kamaraj Nagar have been caught with 5 packet zarda and 2.5 kgs of zarda packets from his possession and the food safety officials were informed and the same was seized from the possession of the accused. On 04/03/2017, one unclaimed packet of 15 kgs tobacco leaf was recovered from the Air Cargo of an Airline and the same was seized by the food safety officials on duty at air cargo complex. Again on 04/03/2017, one Shri. Bikash Bala R/o Chouldari has caught selling prepared pan and the same was seized by the area Food Safety Officer. On 07/02/2017 the Dog Squad, SB, CID has intimated some suspicious packages arrived by air at Head Post Office, Port Blair and on inspection by the team of FSO and police officials found 40 Nos. zarda tin of Ratna Brand belonging to Shri. G.Shreedhar R/o Haddo.
In all the above seizures, the department is taking appropriate action under Food Safety & Standards Act’2006.
