Port Blair, Mar 14: Mrs Rubina Siddiqui, Member of A&N UTCPCR and the officials of newly constituted district child protection unit (DCPU) South Andaman,Dr. Sheetal Anoop, (District child protection officer )and Mrs. Suman Barla, (Protection officer) recently visited Havelock Islands on Mar 10. This induction visit was conducted for acquainting the DCPU with the issues related to Children in the islands
The team spearheaded by Mrs Rubina Siddiqui visited various Anganwadi centres of Havelock and while ascertaining the facilities provided by the AWCs to the benificiaries under the integrated child development scheme (ICDS), also informed the workers about the role of the dcpu .
The Goverment Sr. Secondary School, Havelock no.3 and Goverment Primary and Pre Primary School at Radha Nagar were also visited. A detailed discussion related to RTE and the problems and challenges faced by the principal and staff in remote locations to provide quality education to the children of the islands was held.
Various issues releated to small children as well as adolescents surfaced and strategies to combat the same were recommended by member, UTCPCR.
Awareness about DCPU and Childline was given to the school staff by the DCPO who also assured the officials that regular visits would be conducted by them.
A review meeting with officials from the Police Department, Pradhan (Shyam Nagar Panchayat) Mrs.Shikha Mistry and the CMO of primary health center was conducted later in the day. The pradhan was encouraged to make concerted efforts to form village level childrens committee where the children could exercise their right to participate thus making each village into a Child Friendly Village. The report has been taken up for necessary corrective action by Dy.Commissioner(SA), Chairman DCPU.
