Port Blair, Mar 03: The Department of Civil Supplies & Consumer Affairs has implemented the End-to-End Computerization of Public Distribution System in the South Andaman District (Excluding Little Andaman) w.e.f. 1st October, 2016 with a view to streamline the distribution of PDS commodities. With the implementation of ePOS, ration card related services are extended through Common Service Centers (CSCs) where service requests are submitted digitally.
It has been noticed that the general public are approaching this office for making corrections in their smart cards like name correction, address change etc. for using it as documentary proof for other official works. However, its clearly mentioned under Sub-section (6) of Section 4 of the PDS Control (Order), 2015 that the “Ration Card shall not be used as a document of identity or proof residence”.
Therefore, the general public and the offices of this Administration who are considering/asking for ration card as documentary proof are informed that the Smart Ration Card are meant only for the purpose of drawing ration articles and cannot be used as a document of identity or proof of residence.
