Port Blair, Feb 27: A training on “Financial Literacy, Digital and Cashless Transaction” for the students of Government Senior Secondary School, CFO Nallah, Middle Andaman was organized by the Department of Homescience, JNRM in collaboration with NABARD, Port Blair and in coordination with the Shivapuram Grampanchayat, Middle Andaman. The training has been inaugurated by Shri A.Jabestin, IFS, Divisional Forest Officer, Rangat, Middle Andaman. While Speaking to the participating rural students of the training , the Chief Guest said that, he himself studied in the rural school which was in remote area and rural students have full potential on par with their counterparts in the urban area and leading a life more in touch with nature. The entire benefits should reach upto the grassroot level and to achieve this the students role is inevitable.
He has also appreciated the department of Homescience for taking such steps to sensitize the students of far flung areas. The Guest of Honour the Deputy Education Officer, Rangat Shri. Sushen Mallick,said this is the first of its kind of programme is happening in the Middle Andaman in which a premier higher learning and NAAC accredited college like JNRM is rendering its services to the rural area and making efforts to build the capacity of the students.
The entire benefit of cashless is meaningful if its reaches more people and common man. Shri.Lorentus Bara,Pradhan, Shivapuram, Grampanchayat has explained the students about various government schemes which are directly linked to the cashless transaction and he urged the student community to take the message to spread awareness on cashless and also particularly the ill-effects of alcoholism which has ruined the life of many in the rural belts. The Students should be a messenger to spread awareness and join hands to eradicate the drug menace, he added. Shri K Venkatesan, HOD, Homescience and convener of thetraining, explained the significance of financial literacy and the students role in achieving the vision of our Hon’ble Prime Minister.
Alongwith the college students the school students also should work together to disseminate the information and act as a brand ambassador, he added. The various direct benefit transfer schemes and Beti Bachao Beti Padao, Suknya Suraksha Yojana also explained students through powerpoint presentation and videos. Shri Saroj Kumar Banerjee, Principal incharge has also discussed the benefits of the cashless transfer to the students and its various advantages. Shri ParimalMallick, Manager, Cooperative Bank, Shivpuram also spoke on the occasion on the various schemes of the bank for students. Shri Prabhakaran, Sarpanch has also graced the occasion.
Altogether 70students took part in the training. The topics covered in the trainng include the Introduction of Financial Literacy, Need and Importance, Digital and Cashless Transaction, Saving options / policies, Interest in different deposits, Insurance bonds, Fixed deposits. Role and usage of E-banking, Internet Banking, Credit / debit card, Mobile banking, Financial / Resource Management. Etc. The pool of resource persons from various banks and financial institutions handled the classes. Earlier Ms.Varsa Lakra of II B.Sc Homescience welcomed the gathering and MrAjitesh of III B.Sc Homescience proposed vote of thanks. The entire programme moderated by Ms.Neha of II B.Sc Homescience.
