Port Blair, Feb 21: A Table Top-cum-Orientation Programme was conducted in the Sahana Hall, Wimberlygunj on 21/02/2017 by the Disaster Management Department in coordination with Directorate of Education involving all Head of Schools and their DM In-charge (Teacher) of Wimberlygunj Educational Zone for finalization of Mock Exercise scenarios on Earthquake & Tsunami and its Action plan proposed to be conducted on 23/02/2017 in all Govt. & Pvt. Schools of Wimberlygunj Educational Zone.
The Dy. Education Officer Shri Gyansheel Dubey of Wimberlygunj Educational Zone welcomed the gathering and asked the participants to learn the intricacies of School Disaster Management and objectives of Table Top-cum-Orientation Programme to respond as per their Standard Operating Procedure/Response Plan on 23/02/2017 in the proposed Mock Exercise on Earthquake and Tsunami.
Shri Gyan Singh, Assistant Director (Log.) (DM) highlighted vulnerability profile of this UT towards disaster preparedness and briefed about the proposed mock exercise and its scenarios, different phases of exercise, safety measures etc. He also urged all the participants to conduct the proposed Mock Exercise on 23/02/2017 in their respective schools, observe all activities during the mock exercise and submit the final report of the mock exercise to the Education and Disaster Management Department. Participants were also stressed to give wide publicity among the parents and community about the disaster and preventive measures.
Shri Deen Mohammed, Safety Officer (DM) elaborated on Emergency Communication and Early Warning System of A&N Islands and also emphasized on the need to keep disaster kit in each household which should contain important documents and other articles like torch, radio, some drinking water, biscuits etc.
