Port Blair, Jan 19: A perfect example of coordination between various government agencies emerged in the rescue operation of a child labour in the city. The A&N UTCPCR received a complaint regarding the employment of a minor girl child as domestic help by a resident of Prem Nagar. Taking swift action on the complaint, the commission coordinated with the Labour Department and the Police, requesting them to depute officials for conducting a joint enquiry. A joint enquiry was conducted on Friday, but since the employer was not in station, the team spoke to the girl who was left alone at home while the family vacationed over the weekend. Members of the Commission Mrs. Rubina Siddiqui and Mrs R Geetha Raj again went to the house on Monday along with the police team consisting of SI Dinesh meena and other officials from the Woman Cell and took custody of the child. The child was identified as a child in need of care and protection who hailed from Jharkhand and was accordingly handed over to the CWC and kept at Balika Niketan for interim relief. The case is now registered with the police who would investigate and take action for repatriation of the child to her state of origin. The report submitted by the Labour Department clearly establishes a employer employee relation between the girl and the employer. The commission appreciates the support extended by the Andaman & Nicobar Police Department for initiating swift action along with the A&N UTCPCR.
