Port Blair, Dec 06: The Lt Governor of A&N Islands, Prof Jagdish Mukhi has expressed his deep condolence over the passing away of Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Ms J Jayalalithaa at Apollo Hospitals, Chennai yesterday. The Tamil Nadu Chief Minister was under treatment in the Apollo Hospitals since September 22, due to lung infection. While she was recovering from her illness and likely to be discharged from the hospital soon, the Tamil Nadu Chief Minister suffered a cardiac arrest. She passed away in the hospital at 11.30 pm in night.
In his message, the Lt Governor said that with the Chief Minister Ms J Jayalalithaa passing away, the country has lost an iconic personality and stalwart leader, who was committed to the cause of the people and welfare of the State of Tamil Nadu. He further said the people of the Islands have always admired Jayalalithaaji for the bold decisions she took on several issues. She has contributed immensely in the social and economic progress and development of Tamil Nadu and worked for the welfare of the poor and needy sections of the society.
Meanwhile, the Lt Governor has appealed the people of the Islands to maintain peace and harmony in the Islands in this hour of grief.
