
Port Blair, Dec 02: Prof. Jagdish Mukhi, the Lt. Governor Andaman & Nicobar Islands visited Headquarters Coast Guard Region (Andaman & Nicobar) on 30 Nov 16 and was presented an overview of the Coast Guard operations and activities in the Andaman and Nicobar Islands.
The Lt. Governor interacted with Coast Guard Officers and discussed matters related to Coastal Security imperatives of the Islands, Coast Guard stake and responsibility towards safety and security of mariner & fisher folks at sea, the inter operatibility and synergy with other state agencies.
The Lt. Governor visited Regional Operation Center (ROC) at this Headquarters for a first hand overview of the surveillance facilities and operational efficiency of the Coast Guard organization. Inspector General KS Sheoran PTM, TM Commander Coast Guard Region (A&N) briefed the Lt. Governor about major infrastructure projects under progress to strengthen the Coastal Security matrix with emphasis on the Chain of Static Sensors (RADAR) project. COMCG (A&N) elucidated the Coast Guard Charter of duties for the Lt. Governor and informed on various operations including Search & Rescue, Anti-poaching, Medical evacuation and the Community interaction programmes.
The Lt. Governor was hosted at an official reception onboard Coast Guard Ship Vishwast and met Coast Guard Officers and men serving onboard. Smt Prem Mukhi, the first lady of the Islands, accompanied the Lt. Governor and interacted with the committee members of the Coast Guard Wives Welfare Association.
