Port Blair, Nov 27: The first board meeting of Island Organic Producer Company Ltd (I-Organic) was held in the conference hall of NABARD on 22nd Nov’2016. Shri. Hemant B Songadkar, GM NABARD presided over the meeting. The company was registered on 18th Oct’2016 vide CIN U01110AN2016PTC005317. The board unanimously elected Shri. Abdul Basheer K as the first Chairman of the company. It was decided to appoint a CEO of the company by 15th Dec’16 by way of advertisement in the local newspaper. Further it was decided to open the company’s bank account in SBI main branch and to call application for share holding in the company.
Shri. Hemant B Songadkar, GM NABARD spoke at length about Farmer Producer Organization and instructed the board members to work unitedly for the broad objective of the company i.e Organic farming. He further stressed on the need of synergy of efforts among various departments of the administration for successful implementation of company’s mandate. Shri. Hemant B Songadkar also spoke about forming “cluster of farmers” at various places who are into organic farming or those who are willing to migrate to organic method of farming. A broad discussion was also held on business plan of the company.
The meeting ended with a vote of thanks proposed to the chair by Shri. Abdul Basheer K, Chairman elect.
The project is implemented by ARPAN is association with NABARD under the project titled “Promotion of Farmer Producer Organizations (FPOs).
On 24th Nov’2016 a brainstorming session was held at the Directorate of Agriculture, Haddo with the officials of Agriculture department and CIARI for promotion of Organic method of farming in the Island by I-Organic Company. A detailed discussion was held with the stakeholders and Officials regarding methods of implementation. Many points of improvement have also been identified for promotion of Organic farming in these Island.
