Port Blair, June 05: With a view to create global awareness on the need to take positive environmental action under the theme “Green Economy” for the year 2012, Central Agricultural Research Institute (CARI), Port Blair has celebrated the day by planting sapling of Ashoka and Coconut in its campus.
Dr. D.R. Singh, Director has informed that more than 130 saplings were planted today by the scientists and staff of the Institute which will contribute in carbon sequestration, provide aesthetic value to the campus and belongingness. He also added that perennial flowering plant will be added in the same area which will provide an opportunity for creating an eco-friendly environment and a model to be duplicated in the island. The scientists and staff of the Institute expressed their happiness in this noble gesture i.e. “A Sapling for Better Environment”.
