Port Blair, Nov 24: As if Demonetisation harassment was not enough for people of Great Nicobar Island, now severe crisis of Petrol and Diesel have hit the Island hard.
As per sources, the Andaman and Nicobar Islands Integrated Development Corporation Limited (ANIIDCO) unit of Campbell Bay is running out of Petrol and Diesel since last more than 2 weeks.
As per reports, no oil tanker had berthed at Campbell Bay Jetty since last 15-20 days which is the only reason that the ANIIDCO is running out of Petrol and Diesel.
Sources at Campbell Bay said that anyhow to manage the situation the ANIIDCO took some amount of Petrol and Diesel from INS Baaz on loan and was issuing limited quantity to all vehicles, but now this stock has also ended, it is learnt.
A huge queue was also seen three days ago near the ANIIDCO unit of Campbell Bay where the people gathered only to get the limited quantity of fuel. But now as there is no fuel, petrol bunks are totally empty.
Talking to Andaman Sheekha over phone, the State Vice President, Bhartiya Janta Party, Mr Sanjay Singh also a resident of Campbell Bay said that the situation is so horrible that people of the island are running from pillar to post even for one litre of petrol.
“Those who are coming to the Campbell Bay Bazaar to work are unable to attend their duties just because there is no fuel in the island. Works of businessmen are also hampered,” said Mr Sanjay.
He finally said that after putting enormous efforts from his side an oil tanker has left from Port Blair and by 3-4 days will be reaching here which will finally solve the issue.
However, STS bus service remain uninterrupted as the STS unit has sufficient amount of fuel at Campbell Bay it is learnt.
