Port Blair, Nov 11: Shri Udit Prakash Rai, Dy. Commissioner, South Andaman inaugurated the work of “Development of grazing land at Mathura near Alipur under Brindaban Gram Panchayat” under MGNREGA in the presence of Shri Jaydeep Kumar Dey, Adhyaksh, Zilla Parishad & Smt. Bagyashwari UP-Adhyaksha, Shri Shyamal Jaydhav Pradhan, Brindaban Panchayat, Shri Sandeep Biswas, Pramuk, Shri Thadius Kujur Samiti Member, Shri Basheer, Zilla Parishad Member and other official of line departments and official of MGNREGA viz SPO,PO (HQ), PO(F/G) etc. The Development of grazing land is one of the largest works in South Andaman under MGNREGA for the estimate cost of Rs. 20 lakhs. This work will provide employment generation of about 8833 mandays and approximately 200 houses will be benefited from this project. On the inaugural day itself around 70 workers were engaged. While appreciating the development of grazing land, the Adhyaksh, Zilla Parishad impressed on to initiate more and more permanent nature of works like construction of cow shed, toilets etc. under MGNREGA. The Pradhan, has stated that the development of grazing land will benefit the larger public along with employment generation to the local. Addressing the function, the Dy. Commissioner appreciated the PRIs and officials for their efforts for initiating such a large work under MGNREGA under South Andaman District. It was also stated that the said work is for the welfare of the local community and asked to take benefit from the project.
