Port Blair, Oct 25: The Chairperson, PBMC, Mr B. Eswar Rao has expressed gratitude to the Lt. Governor, Prof. Jagdish Mukhi for launching the Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana in these Islands. On Oct 24, the Lt. Governor while addressing a packed gathering at B.R.Ambedkar Auditorium lauded the step of the government to implement the scheme which aims to provide 5 crore BPL households with free cooking gas including these islands. The scheme is targeted towards improving the health of the women belonging to poor sections of the society who would otherwise resort to use of ‘chulha’ which is highly injurious to their health.
As it is known that the scheme provides financial support to the women belonging to BPL families, it is equally known that the scheme is partly funded by ‘Give it up’ campaign.
The Port Blair Municipal Council through its Councillors has decided to take up the cause of Give it up campaign and popularize the same in order to encourage people to do away with the subsidy based on their financial strength and accordingly appeal the middle and high income earners to wholeheartedly pledge their support and respond to the campaign.
