Port Blair, Oct 23: Global Iodine Deficiency Disorders Prevention Day was observed on 21st October 2016 in the conference Hall of Community Health Center Bammbooflat in a befitting manner. The function was attended by PRI members, School Teachers, Anganwadi workers. ASHA Worker, Secretary & members of shop keeper association, shop Keepers, Mid-day suppliers in school, Doctors, Medical staff and general Public. At the outset in his welcome address, the Health Educator Shri K K Garami gave a brief introduction on importance of Iodine for normal growth and development and its deficiency disorders.
He also gave a data based information regarding Iodine deficiency disorders.
The Chief Medical Officer Incharge Dr M P Susamma in her key note address detailed on the diseases and disorders due to iodine deficiency and its prevention. She advised to consume only Iodised Salt.
Earlier Dr B Bindu Kumar Medical Officer Homoeo Incharge has dwelt on the preventive aspects with special emphasis on food that interfere with absorption/ assimilation of Iodine in the Body. He emphasized on the the Iodine rich food coupled with yoga and pranayam. He also conducted a 10 minutes workshop on “Ujjayi Pranayam” which is beneficial in Thyroid disorders, Heart ailment ect.
About 100 persons attended the function. The function concluded with the vote of thanks proposed by K Subhakar rao, Multi Purpose Health Worker.
