Port Blair, Oct 23: A training programme on “Skilled Development for Production and pasteurization of milk” concluded today at ICAR-CIARI. The programme started on 20th October 2016 at main campus of ICAR-CIARI in the presence of Dr. S. Dam Roy, Director ICAR-CIARI. Dr. Shiv Kumar, Director AH & VS, Andaman & Nicobar Islands was the Chief Guest and Mr. Perveiz, General Manager ANIIDCO was the Guest of Honour. Twenty five dairy farmers and farm women from Calicut & New Bimbliton village participated in the training programme. The training programme was conducted in an interactive mode. Different aspect of dairy farming such as breeds of animals & cross breeding, importance of feeding balanced feed for optimum production, maintenance of sanitation and hygiene of the dairy farm, prevention of major diseases and its treatment were dealt with in the training programme. Fodder is an important component for dairy farming. Practical demonstration with regard to cultivation of fodder crops as an inter crop in coconut & arecanut plantation was shown to the farmers. At the end of the training programme the farmers were handed over the fodder sappling for cultivation of fodder in their field. Value addition of milk like preparation of paneer was also demonstrated to the participants. They were also shown how to convert the dairy farm waste to compost and recycle the matter in profitable way.
Milk is a good source of balance nutrition, production of clean milk is of utmost important to preserve its nutrient. To increase the self life of milk, pasteurization is a well known method. The same was taught and demonstration was given to the participants both at CIARI, as well as in ANIIDCO’s milk plant at Dairying Farm. The participants shared their experiences. Miss Pooja a student who participated in this training programme opined that this type of information received during these 3 days training programme both in practical and theory has helped her to understand better the facts about dairy farming. Dr. S. Dam Roy, Director in his valedictory address narrated the dairy scenario of India. He explained the role of Dr. V. Kurian in the development of India’s dairy industry. He also described the importance of indigenous breeds of dairy animals. He showed his satisfaction about the knowledge gained by the participants and advised them to implement the knowledge learnt during the training programme. He also requested the participants to spread the message to their neighbourhood. The Head of the Division Animal Sciences Dr. A Kundu advised the farmers to cultivate the fodder and requested to make the feed with the locally available feed materials. Earlier Dr. M.S. Kundu, the Course Director narrated the topic covered during the training programme. Dr. Jaisunder, Principal Scientist proposed the vote of thanks.
