Port Blair, Oct 18: The news of attacking a senior citizen by a senior Army Officer at Havelock recently has become talk of the town. Everyone is waiting for further development but till now the Andaman and Nicobar Command has not come out with any concrete statement.
Surprisingly in this entire issue the Andaman and Nicobar Police has not lodged any FIR yet, making this entire issue more complex.
While in normal case even after a brawl police department happily lodges FIR and picks up people involved in the brawl but in this case perhaps, afraid of Army Uniform, the Andaman and Nicobar Police is playing safe. The victims have been told that only after receipt of medical report the police will file an FIR.
Meanwhile, local youths have now started an online petition in this entire issue and planning to submit the petition to the Prime Minister, Defence Minister and other ministers, demanding justice.
General public who had seen the army action on Monday Morning at Marine Jetty want to know what was the need of bringing two trucks full of Armed Army Jawans to find civilian family.
“Had such action of army triggered a panic or stampede among general public, who would have been responsible for this?,” questions Pratima Banerjee, the sitting councillor of Ward No 6 and Chairperson of Education and Social Justice, Sub Committee of PBMC.
Every Indian is proud of Indian Army but incident like this by a few Officers bring bad name for entire Armed Force. General Public of these Islands demands justice and most importantly an answer from ANC and A & N Police.
Andaman Sheekha newspaper is not trying to prove someone right or wrong. The effort is to bring out the truth infront of General Public but silence from the side of ANC is making the issue more serious. Delay in police action is also triggering confusion.
