Port Blair, Sept 30: The Enforcement Wing of the Directorate of Civil Supplies & Consumer Affairs under the supervision of Shri Rajesh Kumar, Assistant Controller (LM) and the staff of Legal Metrology Wing has conducted surprise inspection at the shops situated at Mannarghat & Wimberlygunj on 16.09.2016 and at Ferrargunj, Tusnabad & Chouldari on 19.09.2016.
On inspection, it was noticed that 20 Shop keepers were using unstamped weighing & measuring instruments which is an offence committed under the Legal Metrology (Enforcement) Rules, 2011 and 2 shop keepers were found violating the provisions of the Legal Metrology (Packaged Commodities) Rules, 2011. All the offenders have been booked under appropriate provisions of the Legal Metrology Act, 2009 and the Rules framed there under.
So far 20 offenders have appeared before the Assistant Controller, Legal Metrology to get their offences compounded and an amount of Rs. 41,000/- (Rupees Forty one thousand only) has been realized from them as compounding fee. The remaining three suspected offenders have not yet appeared in this Directorate to get their offence compounded and a compounding notice has been issued to them directing them to appear before the Assistant Controller of Legal Metrology within 7 days, failing which action shall be initiated exparte.
Further, all the traders and vendors are advised to refrain from any unfair trade practices and get their Weighing and Measuring instruments duly verified and stamped as required under law.
