Port Blair, Sept 30: Hindi Pakhwada was observed by Coast Guard Andaman and Nicobar Region from Sept 14-30 to commemorate adoption of Hindi language as “Raj Bhasha” on 14 Sep 1949 and also to promote usage of the language in official correspondence. The event was inaugurated by Inspector General Kuldip S Sheoran, PTM, TM Commander Coast Guard Andaman & Nicobar Region at Port Blair and subsequently conducted by all Coast Guard ships and establishments including units at remote islands of Kamorta and Campbell Bay. Speaking on the inaugural function, COMCG A&N Region elucidated the importance of the “Raj Bhasha” for the unity of the nation and urged all rank and file to increase the usage of Hindi language in the official correspondence. The Commander emphasized upon an honest and earnest attempt by Coast Guard Personnel to achieve the targets set by the Government of India for implementation of the official language.
Coast Guard personnel and civilian staff enthusiastically participated in various activities and competitions which included general awareness quiz, noting/drafting, Essay writing, handwriting, translation and slogan writing. All competitions were held in two categories for the persons hailing from Hindi speaking and non-Hindi speaking areas to provide a level platform. The hallmark event of the Hindi Pakhwada was the “Poetry Recitation” which saw fierce competition on topics of social and patriotic fervor in both categories.
The Dy Inspector General Yashwant Kumar Singh, Chief of Staff, Coast Guard Andaman and Nicobar Region presided over the Valedictory function on 30 Sep 16 and gave cash awards and certificates to winners of various competitions. The Chief of Staff complimented the efforts of organizers as well as the participants for the success of the event and insisted upon continuation of usage of the Hindi Language even after completion of the Pakhwada. The conduct of events and activities associated to Hindi Pakhwada has been coordinated by Smt Sarita Bage Asst Director (Official Language) at this Headquarters.
