While the initiate of the Traffic Police to deploy IRBn jawans to prevent traffic congestion in different parts of the city has drawn accolade, this daily has been flooded with suggestions from several citizens on further measures to ensure proper regulation of traffic.
“Despite heavy deployment, ever burgeoning vehicular population has made it extremely difficult for the Traffic police to manage the situation in the city.
Wrong side parking, over-speeding by vehicles, both side parking, accidents etc have presently become common in the city roads. Such being the situation, the top brass of the Andaman and Nicobar Police should mull over declaring certain roads in the city as one-way to ease traffic woes,” opined an Andaman Sheekha reader.
“Road stretches such as Junglighat, Aberdeen Bazar, Phoenix Bay should be declared as one-way zone which will regulate movement of four-wheelers and two-wheelers easing congestion on roads and prevent road accidents.
The system is in practice in many countries of the world where traffic if beyond control and road stretches can’t be increased. For instance, if a car rider needs to go to Phoenix Bay to TSG Emerald View, he will need to start from the Cooperative Bank and after crossing Hotel TSG Emerald View, the driver has to take the road to Goal Ghar and reach Phoenix Bay via Middle Point and Bengali Club.
Such steps will drastically reduce road congestion besides preventing road mishaps. Such measures should also be implemented on the road from Bengali Club Hill to Ananda Hotel via Aberdeen Bazar via State Bank and again Bengali Club and also at Junglighat from Super Electronics via AKT Showroom via turn to VIP road via Agency House to Goal Ghar.
These three areas are probably the most affected by traffic congestion and the Police should implement the one-way road system in these parts of the city in the first instance before moving to others,” added the reader.
