Port Blair, Sept 23: The Coast Guard District Headquarters No.14 conducted a community interaction programme at Corbyn’s Cove on Friday as part of developing social connect with coastal community and sensitizing fishermen folk under the guidance of Headquarters Coast Guard Region (A&N). The interactions aimed at educating and encouraging the fishermen and coastal population about safety and security issues and instilling a sense of security among the coastal population. The event was attended by 29 personnel from local fishermen folk and representatives from fisheries department.
During the interactions, the fishermen folk were informed on various safety aspects at sea while fishing such as use of life jackets, life buoys, safety equipments and functioning of distress alerts transmitters (DATs). A medical lecture on first aid at sea was also organized during the interaction. The coastal populations are sensitized on various security issues such as whom to inform when foreign poaches are sighted and how to report any suspicious activity at sea. The fishermen are informed about toll free helpline numbers of coast guard maritime rescue coordination center (1554) and police marine force center (1093) to pass safety and security information without any delay.
