Port Blair, Sept 23: ICAR-Central Island Agricultural Research Institute (CIARI) conducted hands on training programme on “Feed Based Aquaculture in Island Ecosystem” at Marine Research Laboratory here from Sept 21-23. Altogether, 13 farmers from different villages of South Andaman like Manpur, Chouldari, Bimblitan, Collinpur, Tushnabad, Harpatabad and Portmout attended the training programme, which was inaugurated by Dr. S. Dam Roy, Director, ICAR-CIARI.
In his address, he emphasized the farmers to utilize the hands-on training to produce the fish feed at their farm level. During the training programme, carp grower feed was prepared by the participants and the same was distributed to them by Dr. R. Kiruba Sankar, Head(i/c), Fisheries Science Division at the valedictory function. Dr. Nagesh Ram, Senior Scientist & Head, KVK emphasized the importance of feeding and pond management practices and advised the farmers to provide their feedback to improve our services in future. Earlier, Mr. T. Sivaramakrishnan, Scientist advised the farmers to initiate backyard feed production units to enhance the growth of aquaculture sector. Mr. K. Saravanan, Scientist, Fisheries Science Division proposed the vote of thanks.
