Port Blair, Sep 16: The Lt Governor of A&N Islands, Prof Jagdish Mukhi, today interacted with a group of 72 students, teachers and group leaders of Scout & Guide team from Chhattisgarh, who are on a visit to the A&N Islands in a simple function at Raj Niwas.
In his brief address on the occasion, the Lt Governor appreciated the move of the Chhattisgarh govt to send tribal children of the state to know about the history and the rich cultural heritage of different places of the country. He further stated that this trip will help the children to know about the marine wealth, contribution of A&N Islands in the freedom struggle, natural beauty and rich bio-diversity of the A&N Islands. The Lt Governor further stated that despite its isolation from mainland, these Islands have registered unprecedented progress and development in various sectors. It has the highest per capita expenditure and highest literacy rate compared to national average, better health care facilities and a clean environment. Mementos were also presented to the Lt Governor by the Scout & Guide team.
Earlier, Shri Gajender Yadav, Chief Commissioner, Scout & Guide, Chhattisgarh welcomed the chief guest and informed that the team is on a nature study tour of the A&N Islands. The Scout & Guide team also visited Raj Niwas and saw the gardens and other attractions.
