Port Blair, Sept 01: The A & N Police Fire Service Unit has been interacting with villagers, general public, Govt. servants, Teachers & Students and employees of private establishments including hoteliers etc by the way of conducting community outreach programmes in Port Blair township as well as in distant Islands regularly on fire extinction and fire prevention aspects throughout the year.
During the current year, the Police Fire Service Training Centre along with the staff of Fire Stations at South Andaman and in far-flung Islands have organized various programmes like five day training on ‘First Aid Fire Fighting’ & ‘Disaster Preparedness’ in every month for the benefit of general public, students, teachers. private entrepreneurs, employees from Hotel/Restaurants etc. which received good response and overwhelming from all corners. During the period from January – August, 2016, 374 peoples of various walks were underwent the said training and gathered knowledge on fire prevention aspects, resulting dip in the receipt of fire calls as those who were underwent the training were able to handle the situation.
Similarly, the staff of Police Fire Service Training Centre had an initiative to spread fire prevention aspects among the general public at their doorsteps to ensure good housekeeping, Do’s & Don’ts in case of any fire incident. To enhance confidence, a Lecture and live demonstration on fire extinguishing techniques with available fire fighting equipments in the premises/locality and Do’s and Don’ts on happening any fire incidents in the villages, Govt. buildings, vital installations, Schools, public places etc. from time to time. As many as 5327 personnel were participated in the said programme and benefitted.
For recurring any major mishap in school buildings in this territory like fire incidents in Dabwali, Haryana in December 1995 and in Kumbakonam, Tamil Nadu in July, 2004 killed many children, the staff of Fire Stations and Police Fire Service Training Centre jointly imparting lecture and demonstration at various Govt. and private schools under National School Safety Programme (NSSP) of Govt. of India. The students and teachers have gathered experience and familiar to respond and reaction on occurrence of any calamity or fire. As per the programme such training/demonstration will be imparted in all most all the Schools in A&N Islands in the current year. Other ongoing capsule course on “First Aid Fire Fighting & Disaster Preparedness” in every month throughout the year, Govt. servants, Students/Teachers, employees of other deptt. including hoteliers are appealed to take benefit of these training.
