Port Blair, Aug 30: The six-day training programme (157th Batch) on Disaster Management & Disaster Preparedness in Collapse Structure Search & Rescue & Medical First Responder (CSSR & MFR) concluded in the conference hall of SP, South Andaman District recently.
The participants went through MFR Course Introduction and Emergency Medical System, Soft tissue injuries, Oxygen therapy, Haemorrhage & shock, musculoskeletal injuries, skull, spinal & chest injuries. Mr B Saigal, Asst. Nodal Officer for Disaster Management of A&N Police Dept. briefed about the vulnerability surrounding the UT as it falls under Seismic Zone-V (very high prone to earthquake), which was experienced in the recent past earthquake followed by Tsunami struck the Islands on 26/12/2004. He highlighted the role of Police personnel and the staff of various Deptt in responding such scenario. Further, he appealed the participants to utilize the knowledge and experience gained during the training programme in case of any emergent situation at their locality or workplace.
At the end of the course, a live demonstration on operation and maintenance of various search and rescue equipments like Chain Saw, Concrete Cutter, Air Lifting Bag, Hydraulic Cutter / Spreader, Inflatable Light, Combi Tools etc. was conducted by involving the participants in the premises of Police Fire Service (HQs), Port Blair.
Simultaneously similar training programme was also conducted at Police Station Billiground and Car Nicobar by the A&N Police Fire Service where altogether 61 persons were attended the training and they shared their views and difficulties being faced and its remedies during emergency in length with the Asst. Nodal Officer (DM).
