Baratang, Aug 19: The Public and PRI members of Baratang area as well as ATR passengers have been demanding immediate removal of MV Pillobhabi Vehicle Ferry Vessel from the Middle Strait.
ATR passengers allege that the vessel MV Pillobhabi operates in unbelievably slow speed and also have so many defects that it causes damages to all small vehicles crossing the Middle Strait in the said ferry.
Talking to Andaman Sheekha Mr. Alagar Swami, the Zilla Parishad Member of Baratang area said that recently the vehicle ferry developed snag right at the middle of the Middle Strait, when there were passengers onboard.
The vessel needs immediate repair and I urge the Shipping Department to immediately remove MV Pillobhabi from Middle Strait and provide another bigger vehicle ferry. Mr. Alagar Swamy also demanded three vehicle ferries for Middle Strait to ease the rush of ATR Passengers and tourists.
When contacted the Director, Shipping Services, Capt (IN) Rajinder Kumar told Andaman Sheekha that a two bigger Vehicle Ferry Vessels are providing their services at Baratang Sector just to ease out the rush.
“Yes, in the recent past MV Pillobhabi has gone through some technical Snags and very soon the vehicle ferry will be replaced with some other vehicle ferry and will be put into maintenance. The DSS will also try to repair the Vehicle Ferry soon so that it can be pressed into service as early as possible,” Capt (IN) Rajinder Kumar said.
