Port Blair, Aug 10: Under National School Safety Programme (NSSP), a lecture and demonstration on “First Aid, Fire Fighting & Disaster Preparedness” was conducted recently at the Police Fire Service Training Centre. Mr S.S. Khan, Inspector Fire Brigade (Training) briefed the students and teachers in of Kamaraj English Medium School, Brookshabad and Govt. Model School, Aberdeen about various classes of fire and types of Portable Fire Extinguishers viz Water Co2, Mechanical Foam, Dry Chemical Powder, Carbon-dioxide and its operation techniques in case of fire while in School as well as in Home. During the programme, the vulnerability about the major fire incident took place in “Krishna Matriculation School”, Kumbakonam, Tamil Nadu during the year 2004, which killed 96 innocent children was also recalled. The training programmes were organized under the guidance of Mr B. Saigal, Chief Fire Officer, A&N Islands.
A live demonstration of operation and maintenance of various Portable Fire Extinguishers was also conducted by involving the students and teachers from both the Schools. Altogether, 360 students and 36 teachers attended the training session.
