Port Blair, Aug 1: The six-day training programme (154 Batch) on “Disaster Management & Disaster Preparedness” in Collapse Structure Search & Rescue & Medical First Responder (CSSR & MFR) to sensitize the Police personnel of various units as well as the staff from Forest and APWD concluded on Saturday. All the participants were go through MFR Course Introduction & Emergency Medical System, Soft tissue injuries, Oxygen therapy, Haemorrhage & shock, musculoskeletal injuries, skull, spinal and chest injuries.
The Chief Fire Officer, A&N Islands & Asst. Nodal Officer for Disaster Management, Mr B. Saigal briefed about the vulnerability profile of these islands as it falls under Seismic Zone-V, which was experienced in the recent past earthquake followed by Tsunami struck the Islands on Dec 26, 2004. He highlighted the role of Police personnel and the staff of various Deptt in responding such scenario. Further, he appealed the participants to utilize the knowledge and experience gained during the training programme in case of any emergent situation at their locality or workplace.
A live demonstration on operation and maintenance of various search and rescue equipments like Chain Saw, Concrete Cutter, Air Lifting Bag, Hydraulic Cutter / Spreader, Inflatable Light, Combi Tools etc. was conducted by involving the participants in the premises of Police Fire Service (HQs), Port Blair.
Simultaneously similar training programme was also conducted at Police Station Kalighat and Havelock by the A&N Police Fire Service where altogether 58 persons were attended the training and they shared their views and difficulties being faced and its remedies during emergency in length with the Chief Fire Officer & Asst. Nodal Officer (DM).
