Port Blair, July 29: A three-day training programme on “Breeding of exotic carps” was got underway on Thursday at ICAR-CIARI. Dr. S. Dam Roy, Director, ICAR-CIARI inaugurated the training programme, which was organised by the Fisheries Science Division of the institute and designed for the staffs deputed from Department of Fisheries, A&N Administration.
In his inaugural address, Dr. Dam Roy gave an overview of global and Indian aquaculture sector. He also stressed that this capacity building programme will improve the skills for breeding of exotic carps. He emphasized the need for self-sufficiency in fish seed production by utilizing the available resources of these Islands. In-Charge, Fisheries Science Division and all scientists of the Division were present during the function.
