Port Blair, July 28: The vision of the Prime Minister, Mr Narendra Modi to “Skill India” has taken another giant step for Andaman & Nicobar Islands. With the efforts of the Lt. Gen. Ajay Kumar Singh, PVSM, AVSM, SM, VSM (Retd.) and whole hearted support of A&N Administration, the proposal to upgrade the existing School of Nursing to College of Nursing under ANIIMS have been accepted by the Indian Nursing Council, New Delhi.
The proposed College of Nursing, ANIIMS was inspected by a team from Pondicherry University in the month of April 2016. Later, inspectors from Indian Nursing Council visited the proposed college in the month of June 2016. On the positive recommendation of Indian Nursing Council inspectors the Andaman & Nicobar College of Nursing has been permitted by the Indian Nursing Council for starting the B.Sc Nursing programme with an intake of 40 students from the academic session September 2016-17. The admission criteria for the selection of students will be as per the reservation rules laid down by the Andaman & Nicobar Administration.
Lt. Col. M. Jayalakshmi (Retd.), Principal, College of Nursing, ANIIMS informed that the college has a very good infrastructure facility at par with other nursing colleges of India and has excellent laboratories, classrooms and well qualified teaching faculty. The B.Sc (N) programme is a 4 years programme with English as the medium of instruction. The prospectus for admission will be available within a short period of notice through advertisement in the local daily.
The Nursing College will be a boon to the Nursing aspirants of the islands who till date were seeking admissions in mainland. It is a pride moment for all the islanders to have their very first Nursing College in these islands.
