PORT BLAIR: The Founder of Sudhangshubala Foundation Trust, Mr. Bhabesh Majumder has expressed concern over the expulsion of eight Nicobari tribal students from the Andaman and Nicobar Islands Institute of Medical Science on the grounds of ineligibility for admission to MBBS course. “The students secured admissions in the Medical College as per the relaxation granted to them by the administration. The Lt. Governor, Lt. General A.K. Singh (Retd) was right in lowering the qualifying marks for the tribal students for admission to MBBS course to 35 % and above considering the backwardness, remoteness, long assimilation process of the tribal community in the mainstream and various other relevant factors. Now the Lt. Governor’s resolve to take all possible steps, including the legal recourse to ensure reinstatement of the expelled students is a step in the right direction. The LG’s laudable candid efforts to address the issue would surely bring about the desired result to the satisfaction of the students and the Nicobari community at large,” said the SFT Founder.
