Port Blair, July 22: To create awareness on First Aid, Fire Fighting & Disaster Preparedness among the staff of Secretariat,A & N Administration, the Andaman and Nicobar Police Fire Service Training conducted training-cum-demonstration in the premises of Secretariat on Friday under the supervision of Mr B. Saigal, Chief Fire Officer.
Launching the training, the Chief Fire Officer briefed the gathering about the use of various types of Fire Extinguishers promptly and efficiently in the early stages of fire and appealed the staff to gather adequate knowledge from the trainers of Police Fire Service Training Centre, which will be useful during emergent situations.
The trainers briefed the gathering about various classes of fire and types of Portable Fire Extinguishers viz Water Co2, Mechanical Foam, Dry Chemical Powder, Carbon-dioxide and its operation techniques in case of fire to the gathering. At the end of the programme, a live demonstration of operation and maintenance of various Portable Fire Extinguishers was also conducted by involving the staff of Secretariat.
Altogether, 127 officers and staff attended the training session. A leaflet on ‘Do’s and Don’ts in case of fire in the premises of Office building, Homes and Tips on good housekeeping and electric cause of fire etc. was also distributed.
A similar training-cum-demonstration was also conducted on Wednesday for the awareness of teachers, students and staff of the schools viz St. Mary’s School, Mohanpura, and Shaleem Public School, Nayagaon, by the A&N Police Fire Service Training Centre and Fire Station Marine respectively. Altogether, 528 students, 43 teachers and 6 staff from both the schools attended the training.
