Port Blair, July 19: The Fisheries Science Division, ICAR-CIARI conducted a training programme on “Induced Breeding and Culture of Carps” recently at Agricultural Technology Information Centre, ICAR-CIARI. Altogether, 23 fish farmers from Chouldhari, Manpur, Bimblitan, Lalpahad, Port Mout and Badmashpahad were benefitted from the three days training programme.
The farmers were given hands on experience in induced breeding of carps using synthetic hormones. The farmers were also sensitized on the need to follow the better management practices for the culture of carps. The Scientists of the institute Anuraj A, J Raymond Jani Angel, S Monalisha, A.K.O. Ratheesh and Head & Senior Scientist, KVK, Dr Nagesh Ram were present during the valedictory function and distributed certificates to the trainees. All the scientists motivated the trainees to take up seed production of carps as a source of income and to meet the huge demand of fish seed requirements in these Islands. The training programme was organized under the guidance of R Kirubasankar, HOD Incharge, Fisheries Science Division and Dr S Dam Roy, Director of ICAR-CIARI, Port Blair.
