Port Blair, July 19: The Coast Guard District Headquarters (N & M Andaman), Diglipur and Indian Coast Guard Ship C-417 conducted a special Community Interaction Programme recently at Passenger Hall, Aerial Bay, Diglipur. The programme educated local fishers on the usage and registration procedure on distress alert transmitters (DATS) and Safety of men and material at Sea. The event was attended by approx 25-30 fishermen and stakeholders from various Govt. agencies/organizations. A lot of enthusiasm was observed amongst all participants and many queries of the fishermen about distress alert transmitter (DATS) were clarified. The importance of being in possession of life saving equipment & first aid kit was emphasized. The role of the local marine community as ‘Eyes’ and ‘Ears’ for Coast Guard was elucidated. The fishermen were encouraged for their active participation in maritime safety and Coastal Security. Live demonstration on various lifesaving safety equipment was also demonstrated and training imparted.
