Port Blair, July 18: A 06 days training programme (151 Batch) on “Disaster Management & Disaster Preparedness” in Collapse Structure Search & Rescue & Medical First Responder (CSSR & MFR) which commenced on 11/07/2016 in the Conference Hall of SP (District), SA’s Office, Port Blair to sensitize the Police personnel of various units as well as the staff from Forest and APWD was concluded on 16/07/2016.
Shri. B. Saigal, Chief Fire Officer, A&N Islands & Asst. Nodal Officer for Disaster Management was present in the valedictory function. In his address, he briefed about the vulnerability surrounding the UT as it falls under Seismic Zone-V (very high prone to earthquake), which was experienced in the recent past earthquake followed by Tsunami struck the Islands on 26/12/2004. He highlighted the role of Police personnel and the staff of various Deptt in responding such scenario. Further, he appealed the participants to utilize the knowledge and experience gained during the training programme in case of any emergent situation at their locality or workplace.
At the end of the course, a live demonstration on operation and maintenance of various search and rescue equipments like Chain Saw, Concrete Cutter, Air Lifting Bag, Hydraulic Cutter / Spreader, Inflatable Light, Combi Tools etc. was conducted by involving the participants in the premises of Police Fire Service (HQs), Port Blair.
Altogether, 71 persons were attended the training and they shared their views and difficulties being faced and its remedies during emergency in length with the Chief Fire Officer & Asst. Nodal Officer (DM).
