Port Blair, July 18: The Indian Coast Guard Ship Rajshree conducted a community interaction program on recently at Guptapara to spread awareness regarding DAT (Distress Alert Transmitter), Coastal Security and various Safety aspects. The fishermen were informed regarding DAT, its procurement, registration and benefits. Live demonstration on usage of lifebuoy and life jackets was also given. Prime focus was given on the importance of having DAT onboard fishing boats. Fishermen were also briefed regarding their role as eyes and ears for Security agencies for securing Andaman and Nicobar coasts. They were asked to inform any unforeseen incident and sighting of any boats, which does not belong to this region, to Indian Coast Guard on toll free number 1554. Members of Guptapara Gram Panchayat and Officials from Fisheries Department were also present during the program. The program helped in spreading awareness among the fishing community.
