Port Blair, July 15: In continuation to the celebration of 67th Vanmahotsav 2016, a mass tree planting drive was organized at Dean Street and Shiv Temple, near V.I.P Road on Friday. The Councillor of Ward no., Mr K Ganeshan was the chief guest of the event, while Councillor, Ward no. 13, Smt Upasana Prasad along with the residents of Junglighat area joined hands with the staff of Forest Department in the planting ceremony. Species namely Tecoma, Gulmohar, Amaltas, Hibiscus & Musanda were planted.
In his address, Mr K. Ganeshan urged to plant more & more trees to mitigate the adverse effect of global warming and climate change. He also appealed to protect the plants till they are well established and to coordinate with Forest Department to maintain greenery.
The members of Sun Youth Club, Junglighat participated in great numbers while supporting the cause of Environmental Conservation through plantation of trees.
