Port Blair, July 15: The 114th Birth day celebration of Bharatratna Kumaraswamy Kamaraj was celebrated at Gandhi Bhavan on Friday. The PCC President Mr Kuldeep Rai Sharma garlanded the photo of K. Kamraj followed by floral tribute by Mr K. Muthu, Mr K. Ganeshan, Mr A.R. Manickam, Smt Rathna Kannan, Mr A.R. Selvam, Mr Raja Ram, Mr Noor Islam, Mr Masih Lugun, Diwakar Das etc of the Congress Party. K. Kamaraj was born on 15/7/1903 in Tamil Nadu and he joined the Congress party at the age of 17 and become a full time worker for the independence cause. The Jallianwala Bagh massacre was the decisive turning point in his life, and at this point he decided his aim was to fight for national freedom and to bring an end to foreign rule. K.Kamaraj, Indian independence activist and statesman who rose from humble beginnings to become a legislator in the Madras Presidency, Chief Minister of Madras state in independent India and President of the Indian National Congress. As Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu he was credited with greatly advancing education in the state through programs that. built new schools, introduced compulsory education, and provided Mid day meals and free uniforms for students. His administration improved the state’s economy by implementing a large number of irrigation projects and enacting laws that protected small farmers from exploitation by landlords, said Mr Sharma in his address to the gathering.
