Port Blair, July 15: A two day training programme on Backyard Poultry in Rural Area got underway on Thursday at Panchayat Hall Ferrargunj. The training programme was organised by the Department of Animal Husbandry & Veterinary Services, A&N Administration in association with Agricultural Technology Management Agency (ATMA), South Andaman.
In his address as the chief guest, Mr Sandeep Biswas, Pramukh, Ferraargunj appreciated the efforts of Department of Animal Husbandry & Veterinary Services, and ATMA South Andaman for conducting such training programme at Ferrargunj block and urged the farmers to take maximum benefit of the programme. Mr Munneswaran, Pradhan, Ferrargunj Gram Panchayat, also spoke about benefits of such training and expressed gratitude to ATMA South Andaman for implanting various extension programme in regular intervals in the SansadAdarsh Gram Ferrargunj.
Mr Ramesh Kumar, Deputy Project Director, ATMA –South Andaman briefed the participant about the role of farmers in the functioning of ATMA. He appealed the farmers to actively participate in ATMA programme for their knowledge and skill development. The technical session were lectured by Senior Veterinary Officers of Department of Animal Husbandry & Veterinary Services Dr. Rajesh Kumar Singh, Dr. K. A. Naveen and Dr. Ashok Gupta covering the topics like Scientific Management & rearing of poultry birds, Vaccination of poultry birds, Important poultry diseases and it prevention, Judicious application of poultry medicines, Poultry meat & egg production and its marketing, etc.
After the technical session an interaction & feedback session also conducted. Smt Nargis Banu and Miss Eswari, both Assistant Technology Manager of ATMA South Andaman coordinated the whole programme and they advocated the farmers to get their aadhaar card linked with saving accounts to get benefit of various Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT) scheme. Altogether, 20 farmers of nearby villages actively participated in the programme.
