Port Blair, July 6: The Indian Coast Guard has evacuated one forest guard Mr Johney in early hours of Wednesday from the Lookout Post (LOP) Tillanchang Island. The forest guard was bitten by a venomous snake and needed immediate evacuation for medical treatment. On receiving the information, Coast Guard Headquarters Operations Centre diverted ICGS Vishwast on patrol in area to effect medical evacuation. The ship arrived at eastern side of Tiilanchang at first light but the police team and patient could not reach the landing point due to heavy rains and water inundation enroute. The ship immediately repositioned to the exposed western side of the island and in prevailing inclement weather, rough sea condition effected the medical evacuation after several attempts. The Medical Officer onboard Coast Guard Ship provided first aid to stabilize the condition of the patient. The ship disembarked the patient and admitted to Primary Health Centre, Kamorta.
